Inside the Curriculum

English and Literature

Students read complex anchor texts that challenge them to be critical, analytical thinkers. They develop skills in the following areas:

  • Inferencing, comparing and contrasting, identifying the main idea, summarizing, and drawing conclusions from a text.
  • Writing that focuses on reflection and textual citation.
  • Smart lesson plans that let teachers target the needs of all students.
  • Assessments and digital tools that help track classroom progress.

We use the accelerated Big Ideas Math series, which allows students to complete the Common Core standards for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade in just two years.

Students learn through an exciting, hands-on approach, using lab practicals that engage all the senses. Example middle school labs by grade include:

  • 6th grade: Crystal Formation and Earth Models.
  • 7th grade: DNA Extraction and Heart Dissection.
  • 8th grade: Conservation of Mass and Exploring pH Levels.

Middle schoolers become student-historians, exploring the ancient world, the medieval world, and United States history through the lens of PERSIA: Political, Economic, Religious, Social, Intellectual, and Artistic. Students engage in historical analysis through the five major strands of middle school history: Historical Reflection, Critical Thinking, Historical Inquiry, Contemporary Analysis, and Identity Development.

The Arabic curriculum is based on the World Readiness Standards designed by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), building students’ ability to use Arabic across reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

Student Expectations

Students are expected to follow the Student Code of Conduct. More importantly, they are expected to maintain their Islamic identity by displaying the morals and ethics of their faith every day and at all times. Every student should read this information thoroughly and follow the guidelines. Any student with a question about a rule should contact their Homeroom Teacher right away for a full explanation, since “I did not know what that rule meant” is not an excuse for breaking a rule.
